Carlie Allison Spencer, Miss Cleveland 2018
My favorite memory or appearance during my first 90 days was…
Clayton Special Needs Dance
Something that you should know about my Carolina Princess is…
She’s a beautiful painter and dancer!! So many talents!!
Something that I want the community to remember about me is…
Making every person I encounter feel like the most important person in the room. Taking the light bestowed upon me as Miss Cleveland and letting it reflect off of everyone I meet, so that they shine brighter than the crown sitting on my head.
Something that I want the community to remember about my platform is…
We ALL fail, what’s important is how we get back up. My hope is everyone remembers to celebrate their failures as learning experiences and use those lessons to grow from the setbacks and continue striving for success.
Before I give up my crown, my goal is to…
Grow the Miss Cleveland brand so the next lovely lady to hold the honor of this title has something to build upon and enhance throughout her reign. The goal is to “pay-it-forward” and build as many relationships and partnerships as possible so that all who follow in my footsteps can strengthen the legacy of the Miss Cleveland sisterhood.
To me, Miss America is about…
Learning to be the best servant, scholar, and advocate for change possible in the community where I am placed.
The best advice I have received while preparing for the state pageant was…
“Don’t plan for the person you want to be after you are crowned Miss North Carolina; instead, prepare and live every day like you already have the job of Miss America.”
My advice to anyone thinking of competing for a title next year is…
DO IT! I competed on the local level of the Miss America Organization for five years before ever winning. On my sixth year, at the age of twenty-three I finally put all the pieces together and found my success within the Miss America Organization. Though the road was long, I would not change a single moment because as difficult as it was at times, my struggle to win taught me so many valuable lessons. I received outstanding intern positions, job offers, and leadership roles because of the many real-world experiences gained from competing in the Miss America Organization. Five years of losing the competition held many alternatives successes in my personal life. Your life can only improve from the skills taught and learned from competing. Don’t miss the opportunity to sharpen your professional skills, build friendships, and gain confidence.
Anything else we should know about your first 90 days?
BEST ninety days of my entire twenty-three years of life. For so long I dreamed of being a titleholder and all the ideas and goals I wanted to accomplish. Finally, I have been able to experience this once and a lifetime journey to the Miss North Carolina stage. It has been a whirlwind of new relationships, many miles of travel, and personal growth. Serving the Cleveland community has been heartwarming to say the least. The Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and Fire Station have been outrageously supportive and encouraging. Festivals and school visits in the area almost always leave me on the verge of tears at the conclusion because the people I meet touch my heart in such a unique and personal way. One of the top priorities I established for my reign was to enjoy every single moment. These first ninety days have left my speechless more times than I can count. Cleveland will forever have my heart. Thank you to every single person who has either helped me get to this point or made these ninety days so spectacular. Cannot wait to see what the future has in store for the first ever Miss Cleveland!!!
