Mackie Brown, Miss Capital City’s Outstanding Teen 2018
My favorite memory or appearance during my first 90 days was…
My favorite appearance so far would be the Cleveland Strawberry Festival. I had so much fun selling raffle tickets, taking pictures, and talking to young girls about the Carolina Princess and Outstanding Teen programs.
Something that you should know about my Carolina Princess is…
My Carolina Princess is fabulous! Her name is Mary-Kathryn and she likes to dance and shows horses.
Something that I want the community to remember about me is…
I want to be remembered as a title holder who was service-minded and inspired others throughout my year as Miss Capital City’s OT.
Something that I want the community to remember about my platform is…
My platform is Turn Up The STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. It encourages students to focus on STEAM subjects and helps students discover their pathway to success in education.
Before I give up my crown, my goal is to…
Not only do I want to improve STEAM education, but also encourage as many girls as I can to enter STEAM career paths. Having a strong knowledge base in STEAM topics will give girls opportunities to access any career path with confidence.
To me, Miss America is about…
Miss America is about empowering young women to be the very best versions of themselves!
The best advice I have received while preparing for the state pageant was…
Don’t wait until the last minute. Do something every day to help you prepare for the pageant, even if only for 30 minutes. Review current events, work out, practice your talent, or work on your platform.
My advice to anyone thinking of competing for a title next year is…
Go for it! It’s scary to go on a stage in front of an audience but you can do it! You’ll gain so much confidence in your abilities and make lifelong friends.
Anything else we should know about your first 90 days?
It’s been wonderful being on a court that has 3 titles: Capital City, Clayton, and Cleveland. I love my Triple C sisters!
