Teen suicide is not a topic many people like to think about, but it is a real issue with 1 in 12 teens attempting suicide each year and 1 in 6 contemplating it. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among 10 to 24 year olds and the 4th leading cause of death among 10-14 year olds (CDC 2011). With these startling statistics, Rachel started a Save A Life club at her high school which aims to prevent teen suicide by improving mental wellness in teens. She is currently selling tickets for an iPad mini to raise money for a scholarship. Please Facebook her for information.
Text, Talk, Act to Improve Mental Health is an hour-long event that uses text messaging to get people talking about mental health and encourage them to take action. Through this event, young people can have a conversation with their peers and give voice to an issue that can otherwise be difficult for them to speak about. Rachel and her school are participating and have more information on her Facebook page.
