Today begins the 2 week countdown until I will crown my successor. It feels like this year has flown by. For the following two weeks I will be reflecting on some of my favorite moments as Miss Capital City and important aspects of the Miss America Organization. Today I will be talking about one of the four points of the crown, scholarship. The Miss America Organization is the largest provider of scholarship to young women in the United States. I won a $1000 scholarship as Miss Capital City but I also was awarded a $1000 scholarship at the Miss North Carolina Pageant. I was privileged to be named the recipient of the Kate Peacock Teaching Fellow Scholarship, named in honor of Miss North Carolina 2014 Kate Peacock. As a result of this great honor I was able to apply for graduate school, was accepted, and began my first semester in January. I am greatly enjoying my classes so far and the way it is improving my classroom knowledge, speaking skills, and writing skills. It was also really exciting to bring home the Kate Peacock Teaching Fellow Scholarship to my Home county’s school district- this was the greatest recognition I could have had as an educator. I am beyond grateful for the Miss America Organization and the opportunities provided to young women like me.
