CLAYTON, NC – March 5, 2016 — On Saturday, the Miss Clayton and Miss Capital City Scholarship Pageant Organization hosted a competitive and exciting event, culminating with the crowning of titleholders for the 2016 Miss North Carolina pageant season. Returning to the Clayton Center in Historic Downtown Clayton, North Carolina, this was the second year for the Miss Clayton titles and seventh year of Miss Capital City. Over $3000 in cash scholarships were awarded, in addition to many in-kind offerings and partnerships for the coming year. Winners will go on to compete for the titles of Miss North Carolina and Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen in Raleigh in June 2016.
Ashtin Gill, promoting her platform “Take the Lead and Read,” was selected as the second ever Miss Clayton. In addition to the scholarship money, Ashtin tied the Congeniality award voted on by her fellow contestants. Miss Clayton’s Outstanding Teen 2016, Catherine White, is an advocate for “Power of S.H.E.” – a community service platform promoting selflessness, humility, and esteem in young women. Catherine earned an award for Leadership in her division, was voted for congeniality winner and was presented the award for the highest score in Talent competition.
Nia Franklin, promoting her platform “Music for Life,” earned the title of Miss Capital City 2016. Nia’s scholarship money is accompanied by awards for top Talent score and a win in Swimsuit/Fitness in the Miss Capital City competition. Her Outstanding Teen representing the Capital City is Karlee Sanderford, who volunteers with “Show the Love – Caring for Orphans Around the World.” Judges also selected Karlee for the top Lifestyle and Fitness honor in her division.
